H2O
Illustrative result
ₕ₂ₒ

How to use this tool

  1. Type a short expression.
  2. Run Subscript and review the resulting letter and digit positions.
  3. Check whether unsupported letters or lost case distinctions change the intended meaning.

How the result is made

The tool looks up each input character in its subscript table, using lowercase letters for the lookup. “H2O” becomes “ₕ₂ₒ”. Digits and several mathematical signs are supported, but the letter set is incomplete and uppercase distinctions are lost for mapped letters.

When to use it

Use it for short chemistry-like labels or compact annotations in a plain-text field. It differs from Superscript Generator by placing mapped symbols below the baseline. For scientific writing, proper formula or HTML subscript markup is usually clearer and can preserve the intended letter case.

Details to check

Unsupported letters remain unchanged and trigger a warning. Unicode subscript forms are not a complete alphabet, and display quality depends on the destination font. Do not treat the output as a validated chemical formula; examine letter case and readability after paste.

Questions people ask

Mapped letters are looked up as lowercase forms.

Is this a formula editor?
