Normalize Paragraph Breaks
Normalize Paragraph Breaks reduces runs of blank lines to a single blank-line separator.
Example: normalize paragraph breaks
a b
a b
How to use this tool
- Paste text containing uneven blank-line runs.
- Run Normalize Paragraph Breaks.
- Verify that paragraph boundaries remain where intended.
How the result is made
The tool searches for two or more newline boundaries with optional whitespace between them and replaces each run with exactly two newline characters. A passage separated by several empty rows becomes two paragraphs with one blank row between them. Single line breaks inside a paragraph are left alone. For example, two paragraphs separated by several empty lines become two paragraphs separated by one blank line.
When to use it
Use it to clean pasted drafts that have inconsistent paragraph spacing while retaining paragraph structure. Remove Empty Lines eliminates paragraph gaps completely. Remove Line Breaks joins every line, which is a much stronger change.
Details to check
The pattern recognizes newline-based breaks rather than visual wrapping. Spaces on blank lines are absorbed into the normalized separator; extra whitespace elsewhere remains. If a document uses blank lines as a special structural marker, inspect the output before using it as the final source.

How many blank lines remain between paragraphs?
One blank line, represented by two newline characters.
Is it the same as removing empty lines?
