Base64 Encoder Decoder
Base64 Encoder Decoder turns UTF-8 text into Base64 and decodes valid Base64 bytes back into text.
Example: base64 encoder decoder
Hi
SGk=
How to use this tool
- Choose encode or decode.
- Paste the source text or Base64 string.
- Check the result for the expected text or an error.
Text and bytes
Encoding first converts input text to UTF-8 bytes and then represents those bytes with Base64 characters. For example, “Hi” encodes as “SGk=”. Decoding reverses that path and requires the bytes to be valid UTF-8 text. Arbitrary binary files are outside this text field’s purpose.
Practical uses
Base64 is useful when a text-only channel must carry byte data or when inspecting a value already delivered in Base64 form. The encoded output is usually longer than the source. Text to Hex and Text to Binary expose the individual UTF-8 bytes in other readable notations.
Important limits
Base64 is a representation, not encryption or proof that data is safe. Decode only material you understand, and validate the decoded result for your own context. Invalid Base64 or invalid UTF-8 can fail; the tool does not silently replace broken bytes with guessing.
Questions people ask
Can this hide a secret?
No; anyone with the encoded value can decode it.
Does it use UTF-8?
Yes; text is converted through UTF-8 bytes.
Can every byte sequence decode as text?
No; the decoder rejects bytes that are not valid UTF-8.
