How to use this tool

  1. Enter text containing accented letters.
  2. Run Remove Diacritics.
  3. Compare names and words against the original for meaning and remaining special letters.

How the result is made

The tool normalizes text to decomposed form, deletes combining marks, then recomposes the result. “café” becomes “cafe” because the accent is separated from the e and removed. The operation is broader than removing only acute accents; other decomposable marks may also disappear.

When to use it

Use it for a rough accent-insensitive comparison, a draft ASCII-oriented label, or inspecting how words change without marks. URL Slug Generator also removes marks but additionally lowercases and discards non-ASCII characters. Remove Invisible Characters addresses formatting code points rather than accents.

Details to check

Diacritics can distinguish words and names, so the output may alter meaning. Not every special letter decomposes into a plain base letter; some remain unchanged. Keep the original spelling for display or authoritative records, and verify any transliteration requirements separately.

Does this change spelling?

It can; accents may be meaningful.

Is it the same as invisible-character removal?
