Speaking Time Calculator
Speaking Time Calculator estimates aloud delivery time from a word count and an adjustable speaking rate.
Example: speaking time calculator
one two three
3 words
How to use this tool
- Paste the script you plan to say.
- Set a words-per-minute rate, or use the default 130.
- Compare the estimated seconds with your target slot.
What the calculator measures
The tool counts words, divides by the chosen words-per-minute rate, converts that to seconds, and rounds up to a whole second. Its default is 130 words per minute and its accepted range is 20 to 1,000. A 260-word script at the default rate therefore gives about two minutes before pauses.
Use the estimate in context
This is useful for timing a talk, voiceover, meeting introduction, or short recording. Reading Time Calculator starts at 200 words per minute and describes silent reading instead. If you need only the amount of text, Word Counter avoids introducing a pace assumption.
Allowance for delivery
Actual delivery includes breathing, pauses, audience reaction, and words spoken more slowly for emphasis. Rehearse aloud with a timer before promising a run time. The calculation does not analyze punctuation, slide transitions, or the difficulty of names and numbers.
