How to use this tool

  1. Paste a passage or document excerpt.
  2. Review the frequency list and total word count.
  3. Compare the most common terms with the topic you intended to cover.

How words are grouped

The counter lowercases words before tallying them. Its tokenizer accepts Unicode letters and numbers and keeps an internal apostrophe, so repeated spellings can be grouped across ordinary case differences. For example, “Guide guide” contributes two uses of “guide.” Punctuation surrounding a word is not a separate word.

Editorial uses

Check a draft for an unintentionally repeated term, compare terminology across sections, or find dominant words in interview notes. A frequent word is not automatically important: articles and common connecting words can outrank the vocabulary you care about. Read the original passage before replacing anything.

Related views and limits

Word Counter provides one total, while N-Gram Counter counts adjacent sequences of two to five words. Character Frequency Counter works at the character level. This tool is a straightforward frequency table; it does not stem words, merge synonyms, score relevance, or infer search demand.
