Text Diff Checker
Text Diff Checker shows added and removed lines between two text versions.
Example: text diff checker
old
- old + new
How to use this tool
- Paste the earlier version in the first field.
- Paste the later version in the second field.
- Read lines marked with a minus or plus prefix.
What the comparison shows
This is a positional line comparison, not a full revision engine. It checks the first line against the first line, the second against the second, and so on. A differing old line is prefixed “- ” and the corresponding new line “+ ”; identical lines are retained with two leading spaces. A line inserted near the top can make many later lines appear changed.
Useful comparisons
Use it for quick checks of two short lists, configuration snippets, or draft paragraphs that kept the same line order. The output makes a small changed line easy to spot. For longer documents or moved sections, use a dedicated diff tool with alignment and context so additions do not shift the whole comparison.
Read the markers carefully
The prefixes are plain ASCII minus and plus characters. They describe which input supplied each line; they do not imply deletion or saving. The tool does not compute a word-level edit, ignore whitespace, or merge versions. Keep a copy of both inputs if you need a durable change record.
Questions people ask
Does it align moved lines?
No; it compares lines at matching positions.
Why did many unchanged lines show as changed?
An inserted or deleted line can shift every later position.
What do the prefixes mean?
“- ” is from the first input; “+ ” is from the second.
