How to use this tool

  1. Paste a page title or short label.
  2. Generate the slug.
  3. Review omitted characters and uniqueness before using it in a URL.

How the label is formed

The tool lowercases text, decomposes many accented characters, strips combining marks, removes characters outside ASCII letters and digits, and joins remaining runs with hyphens. “Café Notes” becomes “cafe-notes.” It does not translate arbitrary non-Latin scripts into English; unsupported characters can disappear.

Use in a publishing workflow

A short readable slug can become the last segment of a page URL. Check that the proposed string is meaningful, unique among your pages, and stable before publication. A slug is only one URL component; the server still determines routing, redirects, and canonical URL behavior.

Different from encoding

URL Encoder Decoder percent-encodes characters so their original values can be recovered. A slug deliberately changes or removes characters and is not reversible. For names with legal significance or a non-Latin audience, choose an editorially reviewed URL instead of assuming the automatic label is complete.

Questions people ask

Will it keep accented Latin letters?

Many decompose to their base ASCII letter, such as é to e.

Does it transliterate every language?

No; non-ASCII characters without supported decomposition can be removed.

Can I decode a slug back to the title?

No; punctuation, case, and some characters are lost.
