Snake Case Converter
Snake Case Converter joins detected words with underscores after lowercasing them.
Example: snake case converter
hello world
hello_world
How to use this tool
- Enter intended words with spaces or punctuation between them.
- Run Snake Case to get lowercase underscore separators.
- Check mixed-case source tokens and target-system identifier rules.
How the result is made
The tool finds runs of Unicode letters and numbers, lowercases each run, and inserts an underscore between runs. “hello world” becomes “hello_world”. Spaces, hyphens, and punctuation act as separators. It does not use language-specific stemming or infer words inside an unbroken mixed-case identifier.
When to use it
Use it for a field name, filename draft, or a data key when underscore-separated words are required. Kebab Case uses hyphens and is often easier to read in URLs; Camel Case removes separators and marks later words with capitals. Choose the format your downstream system expects.
Details to check
An input such as “myVariable” is one run, so it can become “myvariable” rather than “my_variable”. Some non-Latin letters are allowed by the tokenizer but may be invalid in a specific target language or database. Verify acronym splits and identifier rules.
Questions people ask
Will it split myVariable into two words?
No. Continuous mixed-case text is treated as one run.
What happens to hyphens?
They separate tokens and are replaced by underscores.
How is it different from a URL slug?
A slug uses ASCII-only hyphens and additional normalization.
