Add Prefix and Suffix
Add Prefix and Suffix wraps each line with the text you choose.
Example: add prefix and suffix
alpha
> alpha <
How to use this tool
- Enter one item per line.
- Fill Prefix and Suffix with the exact strings to add.
- Run the tool and inspect blank lines and any format-specific escaping needs.
How the result is made
The tool prepends the Prefix field and appends the Suffix field to every physical line. For example, a prefix `> ` and suffix ` <` turn “alpha” into “> alpha <”. Each line is handled independently, so the same wrapper is applied to blank lines too.
When to use it
Use it to prepare quoted list entries, add markers to records, or build a simple repeated format. Wrap Lines in Quotes has fixed double quotes and escapes embedded quotes; Add Prefix and Suffix is more flexible but does not automatically escape anything.
Details to check
This is literal string insertion. It does not parse CSV, JSON, HTML, or code syntax, and it will not escape characters required by those formats. If the result is destined for structured data, validate it with the target parser. Blank lines also receive the wrapper.
Questions people ask
Can the prefix or suffix be empty?
Yes. You can use either side alone.
Does it skip blank lines?
No. Every physical line is wrapped.
Will it make valid JSON strings?
Not automatically; it inserts literal text only.
