Wrap Lines in Quotes
Wrap Lines in Quotes places each line inside double quotes and escapes quotes already inside it.
Example: wrap lines in quotes
alpha
"alpha"
How to use this tool
- Put each desired quoted value on its own line.
- Run Wrap Lines in Quotes.
- Check interior quotes and the required syntax of the destination format.
How the result is made
The tool adds a leading and trailing `"` to each physical line. Any interior double quote is preceded by a backslash, so a line containing quoted words remains distinguishable inside the new wrapper. The line order stays unchanged, and even an empty line becomes a pair of quotes. For example, a line reading “hello” gains enclosing double quotes; an existing double quote inside a line is escaped with a backslash.
When to use it
Use it to prepare simple quoted rows or inspect how a list would look as string-like values. Add Prefix and Suffix can wrap with arbitrary markers but does not escape interior quotes. JSON String Escape handles a full JSON string literal’s special characters more carefully.
Details to check
The output is not guaranteed to be valid CSV or JSON: backslashes, newlines, and delimiter rules differ by format. In CSV, quotes are commonly doubled rather than backslash-escaped. Use the correct encoder for production data and check any existing backslashes in the source.
Questions people ask
How are interior quotes handled?
A backslash is inserted before each double quote.
Are blank lines skipped?
No. They become empty quoted strings.
Is this valid CSV escaping?
Not necessarily; CSV quoting rules are different.
