How to use this tool

  1. Paste numbered lines.
  2. Run Remove Line Numbers.
  3. Check lines whose first number might be actual content.

How the result is made

The tool removes leading whitespace, digits, a period or closing parenthesis, and following whitespace. “1. alpha” becomes “alpha”; “2) beta” also loses its prefix. Numbers elsewhere in a line remain because the pattern is anchored to the beginning.

When to use it

Use it to clean copied numbered lists before sorting or editing the content. Add Line Numbers reverses the general workflow when you need fresh sequential numbering. Remove Numbers is much broader and would delete every numeric character in the text.

Details to check

The pattern can remove a meaningful leading number if it looks like a list marker, such as “2024. Report”. It does not recognize bullets made from letters, Roman numerals, or arbitrary symbols. Review records where a leading number is part of the data.

Questions people ask

No. Only a leading list-like prefix is matched.

Are Roman numerals supported?

No. The pattern recognizes decimal digits.

Will it remove a leading date?

It can if the date starts with digits and a period or closing parenthesis.
