Filter Lines
Filter Lines keeps or excludes lines containing an exact search string.
Example: filter lines
apple pear
apple
How to use this tool
- Put one record per line.
- Enter the literal Contains query and choose Exclude only if needed.
- Run the filter and inspect case-sensitive matches.
How the result is made
The tool checks every physical line with a case-sensitive substring match. In normal mode, it keeps matching lines; with Exclude enabled, it keeps nonmatching lines. A query such as “apple” selects any line containing that exact sequence, even when it appears inside a longer word.
When to use it
Use it to narrow a pasted list, extract relevant log lines, or remove entries with a known marker. Regex Text Extractor works with a restricted pattern and returns matching fragments rather than whole lines. Compare Two Lists groups exact line overlap between two inputs.
Details to check
An empty query matches every line in normal mode and excludes every line in inverted mode. The filter does not trim lines, ignore case, or interpret a regex. Check capitalization and leading spaces in your source; exact matching can miss visually similar text.
Questions people ask
Can I use a regex?
No. This filter uses literal substring matching.
Does it ignore case?
No. Uppercase and lowercase differ.
What does Exclude do?
It keeps lines that do not contain the query.
