Split Text

Split Text cuts input at every exact occurrence of a chosen separator and puts pieces on separate lines.

Try split text

Paste or type text below. The result updates in your browser.

Example: split text

Input
a,b
Illustrative result
a
b

How to use this tool

  1. Enter text containing the delimiter.
  2. Set the exact nonempty Separator string.
  3. Run the split and inspect empty pieces and leftover spaces.

How the result is made

The tool uses a literal string separator, not a regular expression. With a comma separator, “a,b” becomes “a” followed by “b” on separate lines. It requires a nonempty separator. The delimiter is removed from the output, and existing content in each piece is not trimmed.

When to use it

Use it to turn a simple delimiter-separated string into a list, inspect field boundaries, or undo a basic Join Lines operation. Split Text into Chunks uses a fixed grapheme count instead of a delimiter, and Wrap Text to Width breaks by display-count goals.

Details to check

A separator inside a quoted value is still treated as a split point. Thus this is not a CSV parser. Consecutive delimiters create empty pieces, and spaces beside delimiters remain. For structured formats, use a parser that understands quoting and escaping.

Questions people ask

Is the separator a regex?

No. It is matched literally.

Can it parse quoted CSV?

No. It splits inside quoted values too.

What happens with two delimiters together?

An empty piece appears between them.
